Is my donation eligible for a tax credit?
Yes.
All donations to Smiles Foundation are eligible for tax credit under
registration number 86854 4362 RR0001.
How often do your programs run?
Our programs
operate year-round.
How long can I volunteer for?
Our programs
can be short-term or long-term.
What parts of Dominican Republic do you operate in?
In Dominican
Republic, we operate in the metropolitan city of Santo Domingo,
where we have three permanent clinics: Herrera, Los Rios and Pantoja.
We have one clinic each in the north in Puerto Plata, in the east
in Higuey, in the central part one in Moca and one in Santiago.
How
do you determine my volunteer project?
After you fill
out the Skill and Interest Survey, our Executive Director visits
each project and discusses your background with project staff. After
selecting the project that best fits your skills and interests,
our staff will create a customized work schedule.
I don't feel I have any skills. How can I make a difference?
Everybody has
something to offer. Most people possess skills they never knew could
be of use, and it is our job to discover them. Our Skill and Interest
Survey effectively gauges your background, and our staff identifies
areas and projects where you can make a significant contribution.
What
will be my support network while I am abroad?
The key to
a successful volunteer experience is our highly qualified staff.
Our program leaders average 5 years or more in development work
and have experience at facilitating cross-cultural interaction.
Will there be time to travel?
Yes. In addition
to evenings, you will have two weekends to spend at your leisure.
Volunteers may take advantage of the numerous cultural sites and
activities, e.g. the beautiful beaches in the north and east coasts
and the colonial architecture in Santo Domingo.
Do you operate in other countries?
Not yet, we
plan to add more countries in the future.
Do I have to be a Canadian citizen to be a Smiles Foundation volunteer?
No. We have
volunteers from all over the world join the Smiles Foundation team.
I have more questions. How can I get them answered?
Contact us
and we will be glad to help you.
